Where to Stay Near MUSC in Charleston
If you are coming to Charleston to visit MUSC, you already have plenty to plan. You may be traveling for an appointment, surgery, treatment, an interview, a medical rotation, graduation, or to support someone you love. No matter what brings you here, where you stay can make the visit much easier.
Instead of a hotel room, you may want space to spread out, a kitchen for meals on your own schedule, laundry, and separate bedrooms where everyone can rest comfortably.
We are Brandy and Chad, the owners of The Charleston Suites. We live here in Charleston, renovated these historic homes ourselves, and personally care for them. When you stay with us, you are not simply another reservation. You are our guest.
Our seven suites are located in Charleston’s Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood on the downtown peninsula, close to the MUSC medical campus. The two closest are The Isla Suite and The Poppy Suite, which are located just two blocks from MUSC.
The Two Closest Suites to MUSC
MUSC is not just one building. University Medical Center, Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, Ashley River Tower, the Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion, Hollings Cancer Center, and MUSC’s academic buildings are all part of the larger campus. Your exact walking time will depend on which building or entrance you need, but Isla and Poppy allow you to stay right in the neighborhood instead of driving in from another part of Charleston each morning.
The Isla Suite is located on the first floor and has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and space for up to eight guests. It includes a full kitchen, in-unit laundry, a porch, and access to our shared courtyard. We often recommend Isla to families who need extra space or to guests who would feel more comfortable avoiding stairs.
The Poppy Suite is located upstairs in the same house. It has three bedrooms, one bathroom, and space for up to six guests. It also includes a full kitchen, in-unit laundry, two balconies, and parking for two cars. After a full day on campus, Poppy feels like a comfortable little hideaway.
If you need even more space, Isla and Poppy can work well for two families or groups who want to stay close together while still having separate living spaces.
Why a House Can Be More Comfortable Than a Hotel
People come to MUSC for many different reasons. Some guests are here for medical appointments or treatment, while others are visiting a child at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital or supporting a family member during surgery. We also host medical professionals completing rotations, prospective students and employees attending interviews, families visiting students, and guests celebrating an MUSC graduation. Whatever brings you to campus, having the comforts of home can make your stay more enjoyable.
A kitchen allows you to make breakfast before an early appointment or eat dinner at 9 p.m. without searching for an open restaurant. Separate bedrooms allow one person to sleep while someone else takes a call, studies, or watches television. A washer and dryer mean that you can pack less and settle in more comfortably. Even a porch or courtyard can provide a pleasant place to sit and relax at the end of the day.
Roper Hospital and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System are also located within the same downtown medical district. When you have a little free time, you can walk to coffee or a meal on Cannon or Spring Street and enjoy some of the neighborhood while you are here.
Other Charleston Suites Near MUSC
If Isla and Poppy are unavailable, our other suites are located only about half a block farther down the road.
The Charles Suite is located on the first floor, sleeps up to four guests, and includes in-unit laundry and one reserved parking space.
The Victoria Suite is located on the first floor, sleeps up to six guests, and has two bathrooms. This suite does not have a washer or dryer inside the unit.
The Harper Suite is located upstairs, sleeps up to six guests, and includes in-unit laundry. It also provides family gear such as a Pack ’n Play, highchair, and infant tub.

The Small Details That Make a Difference
Most of our suites include one reserved parking space. Poppy includes two parking spaces, and Rosemont includes four. Isla does not automatically include parking, but we have a nearby space that may be available to rent. You should still consult MUSC’s official parking information when planning where to park for an appointment, interview, or campus visit.
Our neighborhood has a Walk Score of 92, so you will have plenty of options nearby. You can walk to Daps for breakfast, Bad Bunnies or 132 Spring Coffee for coffee, and Xiao Bao Biscuit when you want a great lunch.
Come Stay With Us
When you book directly through our website, you receive our best available rate. Your reservation and questions also come directly to our phones instead of going to a call center.
Tell us what would make your visit easier. You may need the suite with the shortest walk to campus, a first-floor space, in-unit laundry, extra bedrooms for family members, two suites in the same house, or a private home for an extended stay.
